These images reflect special moments of contemplation, joy and growth. I hope to bring the viewer back to a time when we all had a sense of play, wonder, and innocence, qualities that seem to elude us as we grow older. As the primary caretaker, I shared in my daughter’s excitement as she learned about the world, observed her creative process as she experimented with her surroundings, and provided encouragement for her to take risks. Sharing these experiences with her on a daily basis slowed me down, and allowed me to reflect on the importance of childhood and fatherhood. Being a stay-at-home dad was challenging at times—in feeling isolated, making sacrifices that children require, and balancing my professional work. Ultimately, this was a most profound and joyful experience.
